A Short Bio of Rev Ken Crassweller

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 27th 1935 to a Ukranian mother and an English father. At an early age headed “north” with the Hudson’s Bay Company, and then teaching school on Native reserves. This was followed by youth work a the Centre Missions (Old St Andrew’s United Church) in downtown Winnipeg, and teaching at Brandon College, Brandon Manitoba.
Married in 1960 to Lesley (Stutely) at Old St Andrew’s Church, Winnipeg, and headed to God’s Lake School and then to Norway House Residential School, northern Manitoba. Was boys’ work supervisor for 10 months even taught full time. Later taught at Grise Fiord, Ellesmere Island and in Fort Chimo, northern Quebec.
Also worked with the Federal Government Northern Affairs, and the Government of NWT in developing native and Inuit arts and crafts programs in Ottawa, Frobisher Bay (Iqualait) and Yellowknife.
Education included Grade 12 at United College, Winnipeg; a B. Ed. (secondary) and MA (Community and Regional Planning) at UBC. The thesis subject relates to environmental psychology. Entering St Andrew’s College, Saskatoon, in 1975 and was ordained in 1978. While at St Andrew’s served at Herschel/Stranraer and Rosthern/Wakaw charges, also at Mount Royal Saskatoon, under supervision of Rev. Wes Ashwin.
Have served congregations in Glenboro, MB (2 years), Moose Jaw (2 years), Rosedale Church, Winnipeg (5 years), St Andrew’s Church, Mission BC (5 years) and Knox United, Taber AB (8 years), also served as a Principal of an Indian band operated school in La Ronge, SK.
While in Winnipeg played a major part in ground work for South Osborne Place, a senior high-rise in Fort Rouge. Have also served on Presbytery committees in four provinces and a Conference Committee in BC. Also served on Presbytery visitation teams and have had experience in supervising interims and qualified interim minister.
Lesley and I will be celebrating 47 years of marriage in July. We have two sons and a daughter and eight grandchildren.
Although Ken has officially retired he has kept busy both with Churches and with his favorite hobby painting.
When Ken and Lesley first visited Centennial United they found us to be a very welcoming, friendly church and Lesley has already signed on as a pastoral care leader.
