Message from the Board

The ABC's of Church Redevelopment has reached its next stage. Now that we know our strengths and weaker points here at Centennial its time to set goals with time limits and improve us as needed, doing this without it costing us any of our strength.

It's that time again to get ready for Christmas, plan all the special services and the Annual Christmas Party - this year with a special treat - the Sunday School children, with the help of teachers and a few soloists from the Choir will perform their Christmas Pageant. Come out and enjoy a very festive evening.

The board is currently doing its yearly recruitment. This year, thankfully, we are loosing very few but we still need to fill their chairs and hopefully expand by a few. So far we have two great people to join the board for 2003 but we would really like a minimum of five. If you are interested in being a part of the running of the Church or interested in more info of what being a board member entails please talk to any board member or leave a message with Jean in the office.

While you celebrate this joyful time of the year please keep in mind, "Jesus Is The Reason For The Season."

Merry Christmas,

We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks to all of you who have submitted articles and reports for the Roundabout. Without you, we could not do our job. If you don't see your submission in this issue, it will appear in a future one.

Our Christmas gift to you is a Centennial Christmas Card, on the back cover of this issue. Please feel free to make photocopies to send to your friends. You can also purchase cards, which are already folded with envelopes during the coffee hour following the Church service. If you have internet access, both the Black & White and Colour versions are available on Centennial's web site in Adobe Acrobat format. You may download these and print them on your computer, or put them on a floppy diskette and take the diskette to any of the major copy centres to have them printed professionally.

This issue of the RoundAbout is available for viewing on the website, and also in PDF format, which you can download and print if you wish. We are using a different method of printing this issue. We hope that the quality will be improved, especially for photographs.

Thanks again to the Weigels for folding and addressing the newsletter and to Brenda Roessingh for providing the original artwork for the cover and children's pages.

· Our Church Manse once stood where the gymnasium and daycare centres now stand. It was converted into a residence for the caretaker, and a house on Carey Road was purchased during Rev. Dr. Parsons' ministry.
· The "RoundAbout Centennial" newsletter is named after the intersection that was located at the convergence of Douglas St., Government St., Hillside Ave. and Gorge Road.
· The Assembly Hall is the first building, which at that time, had a balcony.
· The pulpit, before 1994 stood on a low platform just in front of the organ. The latest move was made about when Rev. John McGibbon was the minister.
· The Glengarry Hospital Church Service, held the first Monday of each month, has been conducted by volunteers from our Church since about 1980. The services at the Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion started soon afterwards, and for many years now have been conducted by Will Dunlop .
· Prairie Night began as "Guest Nite" in 1946 while Rev. Ashford was the minister.
· Mrs. Vi McKenzie was a greeter at the front door for many years. She was followed by Laura Robertson and Mary Brooke.
