A Word from the Worship Committee
Submitted by Ruth Gilliatt, Chair

"Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." I came unexpectedly upon this quotation in a book I was reading recently. My first thought was of the individual soul as "the house"; my next thought was of the community of the Church - in particular, Centennial United Church. The Worship Committee's earnest desire is to do all it can to work with the Lord to "build the house" of Centennial's worship services so that they will bring help, support, vision and guidance to the congregation who meet each Sunday. A couple of sentences later I read, "I heard the words of Jesus: 'A new commandment I give you: that you should love one another, as I have loved you'." May that be the focus of each of us!

The Worship and Outreach Committees would be delighted if someone in the congregation felt that he/she would be willing to lead a service at the Glengarry Hospital one Sunday. The "faithful few", who extend our Church's mission to the Hospital would find their task much easier if help from the congregation were forthcoming. Please give this request some thought!

Centennial United Choir Report
Toni Henderson, Secretary

As summer draws to a close, the Centennial Choir is as busy as ever. We try to provide music during the months of July and August when anthems are not included in the order of service. We were very pleased to have great tenor soloist Ted Taylor, then a lovely duet by Lois McGill and Betty Walshaw, and a beautiful solo by Charles Dool. We are currently rehearsing a quintet (no less), a solo, and a duet to round out our holiday season.

We were delighted to have Robert Neufeld with us on the organ while Ron and Daphne McCormick vacationed. Robert often presides at the piano or theatre organ (which he donated to Centennial). We all appreciate his talents, along with his ready wit and accommodating nature.

We still need more tenors, so if any of you are so inclined, dust off your vocal chords and join us.

GREETERS NEEDED

Do you like to talk and meet friends, old and new? Do you have a sunny disposition and a willingness to help out? Have I got a job for you! Centennial needs more greeters for both the front and the David Street entrances. We need people willing to volunteer for a month of Sundays and people willing to be on the spare list for those Sundays when someone is sick or away. You must be at church by about 10:20 and are done in time to go in to the service.
If you are willing to help out please contact Norma Hardy at 385-5620.
