[Home] THE MINSTER'S NOTE [Next Page]

In his recent book "Half Time", Bob Buford talks about his discovery of volunteering within his church. He summed up his previous misconceptions by saying, he had been unaware of the 90% - 10% rule in most church organizations. Ten percent of the members take on ninety percent of the jobs in the church. Our ratio here is somewhat better than that, but still needs expanding. We are all gifted in unique and different ways and the Church needs all of these. You have a God given talent to share, and we need it now. So often all of us tend to see the validity of others taking on responsibility, but not ourselves

Regardless of age, health or whatever, we can lead more fulfilling lives by sharing our talents. Right now, today, let us make a commitment to enrich others and our own lives by saying YES, you can count on me to help build God's church at Centennial.

Yours in Christ,
Rev. Donald C. Isner

Board Chair Report

Centennial is not just a church, it is a family. Not only are we all related by God being the Father, but we are also a family of choice, and a family of love.

People from Centennial go out of their way to care for their brothers and sisters. Whatever we need, we can find it within our family. If we need cookies, no problem. A ride, someone can usually be found to pick you up. Moral support or just someone to talk to, it is often offered without ever being asked for. We supply shoulders to cry on and people to make you laugh just when you need it.

So the next time you need a little help, please remember that you are a part of a family, and all you have to do is ask and we can probably find someone within the family to help. At the same time, THANKS for all the love and help you show to others.

Thanks again to all of you who have submitted articles and reports. Not all of them will be included here: they will all be used, but some will appear in future editions.

A lot of people had trouble downloading the PDF file posted on Centennial's website for the Spring edition, so we will go back to providing it in the standard HTML format (as well as PDF for those who can download it O.K.). Our thanks to Daphne McCormick for submitting the article The Gospel According to You in the Winter edition. We simply forgot who gave it to us!

We had scheduled the Centennial Member Profile this issue to focus on Bruce Barr. We still present this profile, however it is with great sadness that we must present it as In Memorium instead. We would like to thank the Barr family, Robbie McMechan and Rev. Cross for their contributions. The full autobiography of Bruce is available in the Church Archives, or click HERE, should any of you wish to review it. We also thank Marguerite Swallow for providing the information on Edward Blake Swallow, who also passed away this spring. As usual, thanks to Brenda for the artwork for the cover and children's pages, Jean Grimshaw for loading this issue onto Centennial's website, Judy Rankin for printing the labels, and the Weigels for folding and addressing the printed copies and Jean Peterson for her continued support.
