Do you
know that the 38th General Council of our
United Church will meet at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S. later this
month? At that time, our present moderator, the Rt. Rev. Marion Pardy,
will have completed her 3 year term. In an article in the latest Observer
she spoke of some things she felt were accomplished during her term. I
quote “The awful awareness of the thousands dying from HIV/AIDS and our
lethargy as a western nation toward this global pandemic led our church to
mount the Beads of Hope campaign.” Her visits to the Philippines, Hong
Kong and the Middle East were disturbing to her, knowing ourselves to be
part of the unjust third of the world that has most of the world’s
resources. She points out that though statistics show us having a larger
membership, only 340,000 of us give financially to the church and only
about half give to the Missionary and Service Fund. She wishes that our
goal would be that each person would give to the M & S Fund. This fund
enables our church to:
-
assist approximately 217
small Canadian congregations
-
provide grants to nearly
400 organizations working with and for the poor in
Canada
-
provide grants of $5
million annually to overseas partners
-
join with ecumenical
partners in seeking social and economic justice in Canada and
overseas.

Ever wonder about the abbreviation
A.S.A.P.? Generally we think of it in terms of even more hurry and stress
in our lives. Maybe if we think of this abbreviation in a different
manner, we will begin to find a new way deal with those rough days along
the way.
There's work to do,
deadlines to meet; You've got no time to spare, But as you hurry and
scurry- ASAP - ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER
In the midst of family
chaos, 'Quality' is rare. Do your best; let God do the rest
- ASAP - ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER.
It may seem like your
worries Are more than you can bear. Slow down and take a
breather- ASAP - ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER
God knows how stressful
life is; He wants to ease our cares, And He'll respond to all your
needs A.S.A.P. - ALWAYS SAY A PRAYER
